SAO
MIGUEL DO GOSTOSO BEACH
Home
Sao Miguel
do Gostoso beach is divided into several sections
including Praia do Ponta do Santo Cristo (now infamous
for kite and windsurfing), Praia do Cardeiro, Praia
da Xepa (Central), Praia do Maceio, Praia do Tourinhos
and Praia do Marcos. All of theses sections of the beach
are almost
virgin, historic, quiet, clean and most
definitely beautiful. The beach of Sao Miguel do Gostoso
is perfect for walking, horse riding and water sports.
Or, if you prefer, you can take a buggy ride to other
near by attractions. Whatever you decide to do you are
sure to have a story to tell about your trip to Sao
Miguel do Gostoso.

 Praia
do Ponta do Santo
Cristo The legend says that in
1501, after placing the
colonial mark at Marco
beach, the expedition of
Gaspar de Lemos sailed
south and passed a
protruding point where
they noticed a group of
indigineous people waving
to them. They landed amd
decided to approach this
group since they appeared
civilised. However,
they were taken by
surprise when the
indigineous group
captured, killed and ate
their priest n full view
of the other members of
the expedition who
were, by this time,
trying to escape. Some
time later the crucifix of
the priest was found
giving origin to the name
of the place - Ponta do
Santo
Cristo.

 Praia
do Cardeiro Some time ago the sea
advanced into the land
where Cardeiro beach is
currently
situated,between
Santo Cristo Point and
Xêpa beach. After the sea
subsided a cactus plant
was found living in the
local rock formations.
This plant was very
resistant to death even
though the salt water
continuously washed over
it. This legend gave
origin to the name of the
beach.

Praia da Xepa Sr. Severino Gomes da
Silva, more popularly
known as Sr. 20 after
receiving the number 1020
as his army
identification, tells that
in 1994 Sao Miguel do
Gostoso hosted an army
platoon, of which he was
part, on a regular
exercise. At that time,
Xêpa, according to his
report, meant (in military
terms) food. Sr. 20
recalls that the leftovers
of the soldiers food were
distributed to the local
population in the area
that is today known as
Xepa beach.

Praia do Maceio Maceiós, according to
reports by local dwellers,
were in the past small
concentrations of water
formed by during the high
tides in the Maceió beach
area. These Maceiós do not
exist today since the
formation of dunes have
impeded the entrance of
the sea water however to
remember that this
phenomena existed in the
past the community has
decided to retain the name
Maceió.

Praia do Tourinhos The Dutch, expelled from
Touros in 1654, took
refuge at Reduto beach

by rock formations known
as redutos which gave name

place.

August 1501 the expedition
of Gaspar de Lemos landed
and placed the first
colonial mark in Brasil.

Lenine Pinto, it was in
the same place that Pedro
Álvares Cabral landed for
the first time in
