Maxaranguape
Municipality: This is one of the
best sites for amateur
diving in the country.
The Parrachos of
Maracajau, coral banks
7km from the
coastline, are home to
many colourful fish
and are must to see.
Another option is to
visit 'Cabo de São
Roque' which is
considered to be
Brasil's closest point
to the African
coast. Maracajaú
Beach: A white,
sandy beach and vast
coconut plantation
with crystal clear,
warm waters. The
parrachos, coral banks
7km from the coastline
occupying 13km², is
considered to be a
marine park due to its
great variety of
colorful fish. It is
possible to snorkel
and dive with a
cyclinder

Beach. Caraúbas Beach:
A fishing village with
a calm sea and fluffy
white sand. In some
parts of the beach
there are stones and
cliffs. Boats can be
seen. Ponta Gorda
Beach: A vast
coconut tree
plantation, dunes and
views to the near by
beaches. Ponta Gorda
beach is part of the
piece of land that is
closest to the African
coast. Barra de
Maxaranguape
Beach: Reefs along
the coast in this area
ensure calm waters for
swimming. The beach is
wide with
fluffy white
sand. It is a rare and
beautiful site where
the Maxaranguape river
splits the town with
the sea. To get there
you must cross the
river by
boat.

Rio do Fogo
Municipality: The
municipality has
exited for less than
10 years and the town
has still not been
explored widely for
tourism. The beaches
have reefs with a
cliff and there are
good condtions for
marine fishing. A
legend says that
fishermen used to see
a big circle of fire
in the lake at night
and since the
lake water flowed
into the sea the
natives named the
place Rio do Fogo
(River of
Fire). Rio do Fogo
Beach: The sea
here is full of reefs
and there are rocks on
the sand. Zumbi Beach:
The sea is calm here
and the sand fluffy.
There are dunes and a
coconut plantation. It
is in a fishing
village setting but
there are many summer
holiday homes
here.Carnival is
listed as an event in
the Zumbi tourist
calendar. Barra do Punhaú
Beach: At the end
of the Punhaú
River there is
a large strip of
sand, dunes and a
coconut
plantation Pititinga
Beach: Here the
sea is calm and the
sand white and fluffy.
There is a coconut
plantation in the part
of the beach closest
to 'Coconho' Point.
When the tide is low
it is possible to see
a shipwreck off the
shore.

Touros
Municipality: In 1501, some
portuguese came to
this area and
developed a sugar cane
industry. Today Touros
is a fishing village
with calm beaches and
houses one of the most
important lighthouses
in Latin America. The
touristic
infrastructure is
still very
simple. There is a market
held in Touros every Tuesday morning. Perobas Beach:
Reefs, dunes and a
coconut plantation.
Diving is possible 5km
from the coast where
corals and natural
pools can be seen.
Access is by fishing
boat. Monte Alegre do Sul
Beach: Straight
and tranquil with
white sand that forms
dunes. The sea has
reefs. Garças Beach:
Almost desert. The
sand is white and
fluffy. There is a
coconut plantation and
the sea has reefs and
is calm. Carnaubinha
Beach: Semi-desert
with reefs and a calm
sea. The sand is
white, fluffy and has
coconut trees. Touros Beach:
The sand is fine and
the waves strong and
good for
surfing. Calcanhar
Beach: The sand is
fine, white and
fluffy. The tides are
very strong. Boats can
be seen on the sea.
Here you can find one
of the most important
lighthouses in Latin
American, the tallest
in Brasil with a
height of 62m. To
reach the top you must
climb 298 steps. It is
only opens on Sundays
from 2pm to 5pm. Cajueiro Beach:
Good for surfing. In
parts of the beach the
sand is
white. São José de Touros
Beach: Beach with
weak waves, reefs and
dark
sand.

Pedra Grande
Municipality
A municipality with
little touristic
infrastructure. Marco
beach is the most
important point of the
town. Enxu Queimado
Beach: 5km of
straight white fluffy
beach with simple
houses and a coconut
plantation. Praia
do arco
Beach: The limit
between the
municipality of São
Miguel do Gostoso and
Pedra Grande. Arraial
do Marco is the place
where on
the
7th August 1501 the
expedition of Gaspar
de Lemos landed. It
was here that,
according to the
historian Lenine
Pinto, Pedro Álvares
Cabral landed for the
first time in Brazil
in 1500 before landing
in
Bahia.

São Bento do Norte
Municipality:
In 1876, Luis Cazuza
da Silva, known as
Luis Caboclo,
constructed the first
house of the village
of Caiçara, which he
later called São
Bento. Six years
later, in 1832, the
second house was
constructed. The town
has a beach and the
touristic
infrastructure is
simple. Ponta dos Três
Irmãos Beach: A
small fisihing village
with a deserted beach
with white fluffy
sand. It is 8km in
length.

Caiçara do Norte
Municipality In 1912 the town of
Caiçara was nearly
buried by strong winds
that blew the sand
from the dunes over
the town. In 1933, it
became politically
independent from the
municipality of São
Bento do Norte and
changed it's name to
Caiçara do
Norte. Caiçara Beach:
At low tide the strip
of sand becomes
larger. The beach has
dunes and a coconut
plantation.

Galinhos
Municipality
A small peninsula that
is part of the North
coast of Rio Grande do
Norte. Access is by
boat which takes 15 to
20 minutes. The
attractiveness of this
place is its natural
beauty including salt
beaches. Galinhos Beach:
A small peninsula
surrounded by dunes,
rivers and salt dunes.
In Gallinhos village
it is possible to hire
a fisherman to take
you to Galos by boat.
Buggies can also
access Galos when the
tide is
low. Farol Beach:
A
fishing village with a
lighthouse. Galos Beach:
Access is via
Galinhos. It is a
small village with a
swamp.
